Saint-Tropez is a peninsula and can be reached by car. However, a much more enjoyable option is to take the ferry from the harbour of Sainte-Maxime to Saint-Tropez. The crossing itself is well worth it thanks to the beautiful 15-minute boat trip, which ends in the glamorous harbour of Saint-Tropez, surrounded by spectacular yachts. During the high season, this is also a great way to avoid traffic jams.
We recommend leaving early in the morning, especially in high season, as the car park in Sainte-Maxime fills up quickly. You’ll also have plenty of time to stroll around the market, which lasts until around 12:30 pm.
You can also take the ferry from Les Issambres. Especially in high season, it’s important to arrive on time. If you miss the boat or if it’s already full, it’s best to continue on to Sainte-Maxime, as more ferries depart from there.
Atmosphere and local products at the market
From the harbour, it’s a pleasant 5-minute walk through charming streets to Place des Lices, where the market is held. In addition to clothing, bags and jewellery, you’ll find plenty of local products such as lavender soap, olives, macarons and handmade sausages. For a coffee break, you can relax on the terrace of Le Clemenceau or Le Sporting.
For lunch (and also suitable for dinner), Brasserie des Arts or Le Bistro are excellent choices. Perfect for recharging your energy before strolling past boutiques like Dior, Louis Vuitton and Armani in the nearby streets.
The most charming shopping streets
Rue Gambetta is a long shopping street with many fashion boutiques, as well as plenty of charming small shops selling items such as antiques, toys and pottery. Via the Passage Riva shopping arcade, you’ll reach another fashion-focused street: Rue François Sibilli, which leads to Place de la Garonne.
Rue François Sibilli is the place to go if you’re looking for boutiques like Louis Vuitton or Versace. Both streets run parallel to each other, stretching from the harbour to the beautiful Place des Lices.
A true speciality of Saint-Tropez is its handmade Greek sandals. They’re not cheap, but they are very stylish.
Or would you prefer a walk?
If shopping isn’t really your thing, take a stroll along the beautiful beaches that stretch for miles towards Cap Camarat, and settle down at Le Club 55 or Nikki Beach.
Back in the harbour, before the ferry departs, you can enjoy some last-minute yacht spotting and occasionally even spot a celebrity. Or treat yourself to an ice cream at Barbarac, the best ice cream parlour in the harbour of Saint-Tropez.
