According to many, Les Amoureux serves the best pizzas in the region. If you want to taste the real Neapolitan pizza, this is the place to be. A real treat is the pizza calzone with ricotta, ham, arugula and Parmesan cheese. It is a small and popular restaurant, every evening fully booked, so reservation (well in advance) is recommended.

Have you ever eaten socca? Socca is a specialty from Nice, consisting of a pancake made from chickpeas, flour, salt, water and olive oil. Sprinkle some black pepper on top and you're done! Try this local specialty at the market stall of Chez Theresa, located in the middle of the old town on the Cours Saleya. A real household name in Nice! You can also pick up the socca in the restaurant where all of Theresa's socca is made (28, Rue Droite).

Avignon has a wealth of good and cozy restaurants. Avoid Place du Horlogerie; only very touristy plates are served. A really nice place is Place Grillon opposite hotel L'Europe. A small charming square with various restaurants and terraces surrounded by nice streets with original high-level shops, such as Rue Petite Fusterie.

Elaïo has a magnificent view of both the Mediterranean Sea and old Nice. That alone is enough reason to have lunch here, but the ambiance and the price/quality of the food are also very good, especially for southern French standards and at this location. There's a lot of variety in the dishes, so there's something for everyone. Reservations are recommended, because especially at sunset it can be busy here!
